In most wastewater networks, sewage is collected primarily by gravity from residential communities and industrial facilities. The flow is conveyed through sewer pipes toward a pump station where elevation changes or long transmission distances require lifting. From the pump station, wastewater is pumped through force mains to the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).
Why this matters: collection lines experience variable flow, solids/debris, and transient events (pump start/stop). Selecting the right isolation, backflow protection, air management, and maintainable connections helps reduce downtime and overflow risk.
A combined sewer system transports domestic sewage, industrial wastewater, and stormwater runoff in the same pipeline. During rainfall, the total flow can rise significantly, increasing the load on pump stations and WWTPs.
Many newly built collection systems use a separate system design, where sanitary sewage is transported to the WWTP, while stormwater is conveyed in a dedicated stormwater network. Separating flows improves controllability and reduces wet-weather shock loads.
Stormwater is collected via storm drains and can be directed to pump stations or stormwater storage tanks. In some operating strategies, stormwater may later be mixed with wastewater before treatment.
Because rainfall is difficult to predict, it may be necessary to store stormwater in rural retention basins or in dedicated stormwater tanks/ponds at the wastewater treatment plant. When the WWTP has available capacity, stored stormwater can be introduced in a controlled manner, making it easier to manage mixed inflow rates and maintain stable plant operation.
Yaxing provides valves and pipeline connection products commonly used in wastewater collection projects—supporting isolation, protection, solids handling, air management, and fast field installation/repair.
Wastewater collection networks are built and maintained in the field. Reliable connection hardware reduces leakage risk, speeds installation, and minimizes downtime during repairs.
